In the above video at a Northwell Foundation Legacy luncheon. Margaret and I spoke about the history of the Keene Reading Glasses Program.
I was a volunteer at NY Presbyterian Hospital in the early 2000's. My job was to take the library cart around and over a couple of years I entered many hundreds of Hospital rooms.
I found that a certain percentage of patients or their family members did not have their Glasses or never had any vision care.
Margaret and I decided in 2012 to fill this need and provide Reading Glasses.
We began at Lenox Hill Hospital on the upper east side of Manhattan in 2013.
The program which is primarily self-funded along with some friends who support our goal has now expanded.
We are at 10 Northwell Health Hospitals, 6 Catholic Hospitals on Long Island, 7 Hackensack Meridian Health Hospitals, the Duke University Health System, Sharp Hospitals in San Diego and several Social Service organizations in South Florida.
It is our firm belief that "we must do some good while we are on this earth" which motivates us to continue to expand and offer our glasses to those who need help with their vision.
